3130 - ASSIGNMENTS

The Board believes that the appropriate placement of qualified and competent staff is essential to the successful functioning of the District.

The Superintendent shall assign and make known through administrative channels the duties, days, and hours of the various classes of instructional personnel.

 A.Instructional staff members shall perform the duties required by Florida statutes and the collective bargaining agreement, and other reasonable duties as may be assigned by their immediate supervisor. Failure to perform such duties in an acceptable manner shall constitute a violation of contract and just cause for disciplinary action.

 B.Instructional staff members are responsible for student control and supervision at any location on campus or during school-sponsored activities.

 C.Instructional staff members shall not permit their family or friends by their presence to interfere with performance of their duties during working hours.

 D.Instructional staff who must leave their areas of supervision must make arrangements for supervision during their absence.

Assignment of Staff to Schools Graded "D" or "F"

Pursuant to statutory requirements, the Board shall not assign a higher percentage than the Board average of first-time teachers, temporarily certified teachers, teachers in need of improvement, or out-of-field teachers to schools with above the Board average of minority and economically disadvantaged students, or to schools that are graded "D" or "F". Such assignments shall be consistent with the collective bargaining agreement.

The Board shall annually certify to the Commissioner of Education that this requirement is being met.

Nepotism

Two (2) or more close relatives shall not work in the same administrative unit except by permission of the Superintendent. In the event that an instructional staff member, due to some unusual circumstance, may have been placed in the same working unit with a close relative, the instructional staff member may continue in the position until s/he can be reassigned to a position of comparable grade, pay, and reasonable personal convenience.

 A.A close relative may be employed in the same school when specifically recommended by the principal and approved by the Superintendent on the grounds that it is to the educational advantage of the school.

 B.Under no circumstances shall a person supervise the work of a relative.

 C.Close relatives are defined as father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, grandparents, father-in-law, mother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother, or half-sister, and certified domestic partners as their children as defined in Policy 3420.06, Certified Domestic Partners.

 D.The Human Resources Division may recommend re-assignment when current employees become related after hiring.
