The Board of Education supports the concept that assessment data will provide information on student progress in achieving the Ohio Academic Content Standards as reflected in the Akron Public Schools Graded Course of Study Adoptions. This data is valuable to the teacher in planning and modifying instruction and to the curriculum staff in designing professional development.

All students in grades 7 – 12 will take comprehensive semester and end-of-course exams. Comprehensive semester and end-of-course exams in the areas of English/Language Arts, mathematics, science and social studies shall be written to include grade level indicators form the Ohio Academic Content Standards. These exams will be designed by District curriculum staff and teachers. They will be distributed on a District-wide basis to middle school and high school teachers who will administer and score the assessments so that they can gain better insight to their students’ learning.
