2421 - CAREER EDUCATION PROGRAM

It is the desire of the Board of Education to ensure that skill training programs provide a clear path to post-secondary/life-long learning opportunities. The Board recognizes that some students may not have the opportunity to continue their education immediately after graduation from high school; however, it should be understood that all Career Education students should have the academic skills to:

 A.enter an associate degree program;

 B.pursue a baccalaureate degree at a university;

 C.continue/enter an apprenticeship program;

 D.enter the work force knowing that their rigorous academic training has provided the background for success in college when they desire to enroll.

For the purposes of policy, "Career Education" shall be defined as a program designed to promote the above expectations through:

 A.career guidance, educational experiences, and skill training to enhance career exploration and/or choices, including an individual career plan and a career passport for all students;

 B.industry identified skill training competencies;

 C.expanding the walls of the classroom into the business community;

 D.business partnership involvement through advisory committees;

 E.establish clearly articulated post-secondary training options which include K-16 instruction;

 F.establish program identified benchmarks of success.

The Board shall provide occupational skill training (vocational) programs.
