8215 - STATE TOURNAMENT ATTENDANCE POLICY
District Coaches Attendance
Coaches of each W.I.A.A. approved sport operated by the District may be permitted to attend the W.I.A.A. state tournament in the sport which they coach. The contents of this policy apply to coaches who are not full-time employees of the District. A maximum of four (4) coaches per sport may be excused during the school day to attend state tournament games. The District will purchase tickets for those coaches attending the state tournament under this policy. Those attending the state tournament under this provision are responsible for their own meals and lodging. A school car may be used, if available. Coaches must receive approval from their building principal prior to attending the state tournament or contest. Attendance shall be contingent upon available funds and the ability of the District to secure an appropriate substitute teacher to serve in the place of the coach on the day of absence necessary to attend the state tournament.
Student Attendance
Students who wish to attend the tournament may do so if they purchase their own ticket and follow the prescribed policy for making up work prior to their attendance. Students must follow District prescribed attendance procedures in addition to the requirements of this policy.
District Participation in State Tournament
The Athletic Director in conjunction with the building administrator will develop a procedure for selling tickets when a District team is involved in a state tournament. First consideration for the purchase of tickets will be to the players and parents involved in the activity.
The District may purchase tickets for District staff and volunteers serving as chaperones/supervisors for student spectators/participants when a District team is participating in a state athletic tournament.
The District shall purchase tickets for the following individuals when a District team is participating in a state athletic tournament: students representing the school in support of the team (i.e., dance team if performing, pep band, if performing, and cheerleaders). Tickets will be purchased by the District subject to funds being available.
The District Administrator or designee will determine whether the circumstances concerning involvement of a District team in a state tournament warrants consideration of an adjustment to the school calendar.
Professional Development
There is a maximum of one (1) day loss of school time for clinics for teachers/coaches per sport. The Athletic Director and principal must approve attendance at a clinic or workshop prior to registration and attendance.
