2131.01 - EDUCATIONAL GOALS

The School Board believes that the mission of the Corporation is being accomplished when there is valid evidence that its educational programs are making it possible for students to achieve the following educational goals:

 A.An inquiring mind, with a continuing desire for knowledge and maximum educational effort, including the development of effective study skills and habits.

 B.The ability to think clearly, accurately, and creatively, draw conclusions, make decisions, and take action based on evidence.

 C.Proficiency in the use of the basic tools of learning in functional problem solving and in the acquisition of information, facts, and knowledge about the world and its people.

 D.Proficiency in the skills of communication including the ability to express himself/herself clearly and accurately in writing and speech and the ability to read and listen effectively and critically.

 E.Knowledge of and sensitivity to man, his nature, his environment, and his relationship to the world in which he lives, with emphasis on his responsibilities and rights as a citizen and family member, including the study of the social sciences and humanities.

 F.Knowledge of science and proficiency in the use of the scientific method of problem solving.

 G.Knowledge of mathematics and proficiency in the use of the fundamental process of quantitative reasoning and expression.

 H.Knowledge of how to purchase and use goods and services intelligently, understanding both the values received by the consumer and the economic consequences of their acts.

 I.The development of salable skills and those understandings and attitudes that make the worker an intelligent and productive participant in economic life.

 J.An understanding and appreciation of literature, art, music, and nature.
