7530 - LENDING OF SCHOOL-OWNED EQUIPMENT
The Board of Education believes that District-owned equipment is a valuable resource which may be loaned for community use under certain conditions only, provided that such use does not infringe on the original and necessary purpose of the equipment or interfere with the educational program of the District.
Equipment may be loaned or rented to responsible community groups for a worthy, educational, civic, or charitable purpose. In such cases, the group borrowing the equipment must agree to accept responsibility for repairing or replacing any equipment damaged or lost while in its possession and to assure the provision of a competent operator for any equipment requiring technical or operational knowledge. The Superintendent has the authority to loan equipment to community groups to a limited extent in situations when, in his/her judgement, no other practical means to provide for the group's needs is available.
School employees may be permitted to borrow school-owned equipment only when its use is directly related to their employment.
Students may be permitted to borrow school-owned equipment if it is to be used in connection with their studies or extracurricular activities.
Permission to use school equipment must be authorized by the Superintendent or his/her designee, who shall establish proper controls to ensure the borrower's responsibility for and return of all such equipment.
