3370 - TENURE

The Board of Education shall follow procedures for placing professional staff members on tenure as stated in the Michigan Teacher's Tenure Act (M.C.L.A. 38.71 et seq.).

The Superintendent shall make recommendations to the Board regarding placement of probationary teachers on tenure, in accordance with the time periods specified in the Act. These recommendations shall be made and acted upon by the Board.

All teachers shall be required to serve the maximum probationary period authorized by the Teacher Tenure Act. (Currently two (2) years) for teachers coming to Fruitport after having received tenure in another Michigan district or four (4) years for teachers who have never been employed in Michigan with tenure.

Teachers employed as administrators, supervisors, and in certain other noninstructional positions, including but not limited to a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Principal, or Director shall not be granted tenure in such capacity, but shall be deemed to have been granted continuing tenure as a classroom teacher upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period provided by the Tenure Act.
