6530 - TERMINATION OF BOARD OF EDUCATION PROVIDED HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE
The Board of Education provides health and dental insurance to its employees pursuant to the terms of its collective bargaining agreements and individual employment agreements. The Board does not intend to provide overlapping health and dental insurance coverage upon the termination of an employee’s employment. Termination of an employee’s health and dental insurance coverage will be governed by the terms of the Master Group Contract, then in effect, between the Board and its third party providers and the following terms and conditions. COBRA continuation coverage is available to terminating employees that qualify.
Retirement
SERS and STRS consider retirement effective on the first day of the month following the last day of service by the employee. Retirees are eligible for retirement system benefits, including health and dental insurance, immediately upon retirement. Therefore, Board provided health and dental insurance shall terminate no later than the last day of the month in which the employee last worked.
Resignations
For the purposes of this section, a resignation can be express or implied. An express resignation can be in writing or stated orally with the selection of a specific resignation date. An implied resignation occurs when an employee no longer reports for their assigned duties, has no intention of returning to work, has not been officially terminated, and has not submitted an express resignation.
When an employee resigns, as defined above, Board provided health and dental insurance shall terminate no later than the last day of the month in which an employee last worked or earned a paid leave.
When an employee resigns after the end of the school year, Board of Education provided health and dental insurance shall terminate no later than:
| A. | for non-administrative classified personnel, June 30th , the last day of the classified contract year as specified by the negotiated master contract between FASP and the Finneytown Board of Education; | ||
| B. | for non-administrative certified personnel, July 31st, the last day of the certified contract year as specified by the negotiated contract between FEA and the Finneytown Board of Education; | ||
| C. | for administrative or supervisory personnel, July 31st, the last day of the administrative or supervisory contract year as specified in individual employment contracts. |
Employer Initiated Terminations
Board provided health and dental insurance shall terminate for terminated employees on the last day of the month in which the employee’s termination became effective.
