2370.01 - VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION PROGRAM
The District shall provide eligible students within its boundaries the option of participating in a virtual instruction program. A "virtual instruction program"(VIP) is a program that takes place in an interactive learning environment created through technology in which a student and teacher are separated from each other by time, space, or both.
The purpose of the program is to make instruction available to District students using online and distance education technology in a nontraditional classroom, i.e., primarily outside of public school buildings. In practice, most students will access the online instruction from their home.
This program provides an additional school choice option for parents and a tool for the District to use to meet class size requirements. The District shall offer a full-time program for students in K-12. The District may offer a full time or part time program for grade 9-12 students enrolled in dropout prevention, academic intervention, Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), core courses to meet class size requirements, or community colleges.
The District has contracted with the following providers for Virtual instruction Programs:
| A. | Florida Virtual School; | ||
| B. | A Franchise of Florida Virtual School; | ||
| C. | A provider approved by the Department of Education. |
Student Eligibility
Students eligible for the District VIP program must meet at least one of the following conditions:
| A. | The student has spent the prior school year in attendance at a public school in this state and was enrolled and reported by a public school district for funding during the preceding October and February for the purposes of the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) surveys; | ||
